About three months ago the influential landscape photographer Michael Reichmann died from cancer. It was a sad day for the photographic community but his legacy will live on for a long time. Michael was the founder of The Luminous Landscape, one of the first successful photography websites. He also founded the Luminous Endowment for Photographers not too long before his death, an endowment which provides financial assistance through grants to deserving photographers and their projects – worldwide.
Michael was very inspirational to me through his true passion for photography his love of fine prints and his videos on the art of photography. I visited his art gallery in Toronto and was very impressed by the quality of the art shown there. Even though he is known as a landscape photographer he also produced a lot of fantastic street photography during his winter stays in his beloved San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. I had always hoped to join him on one of his yearly workshop trips to Antarctica, but alas that will not be possible now.
The folks at The Luminous Landscape just published a very nice tribute to Michael: Michael Reichmann – Reflections
We miss you Michael, but you are still inspiring us!
