Our container of personal effects arrived a couple of weeks ago. It only took three weeks to come from Montreal instead of the planned five weeks. It was also much simpler than expected to deal with this, as long as you have a good customs broker.

I did have to pay an extra $150 to get the container fumigated, which is necessary if you have any wood furniture in there. They didn’t have to open the container to do it though, they apparently just spray through openings. We were lucky to have no damage or water at all in the container.

One nice surprise was that even though we have yet to receive our Pensionadas, we were able to bring our stuff tax free by just presenting proof that we had applied for the visa. Also, the new limit for personal effects is $25K
