Insurance Pictures

On January 21, 2010, in Uncategorized, by sduford

Yesterday I took some pictures of the house for insurance purposes. We’re very nearly done, taking possession of the last module (master bedroom) tomorrow. The pool is nearly ready to fill as well, hopefully by the end of next week.

Picture Update

On October 7, 2009, in Tropical House, by sduford

Many people have been writing asking for some new photos. I’ve been very busy with the company and I also keep telling myself that if I wait just a little longer, what I want to photograph will finally be done! Things are progressing, but very slowly and it’s getting so frustrating! Anyway, here’s a few new pictures.

Here’s a view of the patio with pergola along with the pool, the bohio (palapa) and the live security system:

Same area viewed from the other side of the pool:

Here’s the BBQ area in the bohio:

Here’s the ceiling in the bohio, showcasing my product (Palmex):

Our first palm tree! (For 25 years I’ve been half-joking that someday I would have a palm tree in my backyard, now I have several)

Our first papaya tree. This thing was only a foot high 4 months ago, now it is 5 feet high. Should be producing delicious papayas next year:

Every stick in this picture protects a coffee plant, we have 100 of them!

A Palma Rojo (red palm):

A heliconia. These are wild and grow like weeds along the creek:

We have ten banana trees, 4 different varieties. These also grow about 1 foot per month, and should be producing bananas in a few months:

Kitchen Cabinets

On July 25, 2009, in Tropical House, by sduford

We finally have the kitchen cabinets installed in the main kitchen. Wolfgang did a beautiful job and the natural roble wood turned out really nice. We stayed with a simple, clean and natural look. Now we need to get the granite counter tops, which will be in “Peacock Green”, a very dark-green Brazilian granite. There will be two side-by-side refrigerators under the cabinets on the back wall. One unit is all-freezer, the other is all-fridge.

We should be able to use the kitchen and living-room by the end of August. Things have been really slow but picking up speed in recent weeks.

Guest House Getting Closer

On March 19, 2009, in Panama, Tropical House, by sduford

Lots of progress in the guest house today: our kitchen cabinets we’re installed as well as the toilet and most of the electrical fixtures. Our appliances were also delivered. We now need counter tops, finishing the plumbing and the shower tiles, some final painting, and connecting the house to the water, power, and septic system. We can see the light at the end of the guest house tunnel!

They also did some much needed work on the driveway, including building stairs along the steepest part so we can safely walk down without sliding. Yes, it is that steep!

Construction Progress Report

On March 15, 2009, in Panama, Tropical House, by sduford

The windows and doors are installed in the guest house and the electrical wires have been run. The septic system is also almost completed. They have built the little roof structure over the entrance. This will eventually be covered with my product, Palmex.

They have also built the pool stairs and poured the concrete ring that will hold the roof of the bohio (round gazebo).

While things are progressing, I doubt that we will be able to move into the guest house by the end of March as we had hoped for.
