Here’s a shot of my Nikon D700 full-frame camera next to my new Olympus E-M1, before I put the whole Nikon kit up for sale.
I am very pleased with the ergonomics of the E-M1 and frankly, I wouldn’t want it to be much smaller. While the camera is very light, it nonetheless feels very solid as it is built from magnesium alloy and is weather-proof.
Pictures actually don’t give you a true sense of the size and weight difference. The Nikon is a monster next to the Olympus and this is the whole reason why I’m switching. Over the last few years, 95% of the time I would reach for my little Lumix LX5 and not for the Nikon. Size and weight negatively impact not only convenience but enjoyment. As the saying goes, the best camera is the one you actually have with you.
I’m done pixel-peeping and striving to always have the ultimate in image quality. I’m back to enjoying photography again and carrying my camera everywhere I go.
